ALFN Local Food Club: The Market is Open and Support us at Whole Foods!
Good Morning,
The market is open and ready for orders. And for what you can’t get on our market, there’s always Whole Foods. Some of you may have heard that our Little Rock store is moving to a new, beautiful, and greatly expanded location at the corner of Chenal and Bowman next to Best Buy. We’re talking in-store smoked meats, enhanced grab-and-go meals, and yup, even a beer and wine bar with pub-style food, 12 taps, and indoor and outdoor seating.
But you wanna know what the best part is? That on this Thursday, February 19th, 1% of all sales go to your Arkansas Local Food Network! This is the perfect opportunity for you to check out the store, get all your shopping done, and support our work to build a stronger local food system.
Thanks so much for your support of good food and we hope to see you Thursday!

Happy very cold Sunday, Local Market of Love customers!!
The sun is shining but if you are planning to stay in, stay warm, and just ride out this frigid cold, what better way to do it than by planning your week of needs and wants? Why not place your weekly orders with us? There are so many reasons why this is such a GREAT idea!
First…we are LOCAL! Yes, local. No pretending, no illusion of local. The real deal. Each item on this market’s website comes at you screaming local.
Second…it lets your hard earned cash stay in our county. It helps the circle that continues to feed back into the local scene.
Third…much healthier alternatives. No matter what, we make sure to stay with out mission statement. Yes, sure, there are cookies, pies, cakes, confections…but, they come to you with pure ingredients. Real ingredients. Not a mile long list of additives, preservatives, ingredients you have never heard of. The same with all of our products…the real deal…no fakes or phonies.
Fourth…and this is very important…the affordability of our market!!! YAY!!!! We all work hard, earn hard, spend hard…we want to bring you all of this local goodness at prices that make you smile, that won’t break the bank, and that leave you with a lot of that hard earned cash, still leftover for fun or other necessities.
We offer the goodness, the local vibe, the nutrition, and the amazing prices. We realize there are major chains you can shop, we realize that there are the upscale trendy foodie stores, we realize that you can drive 45 minutes to shop in trendy markets. BUT…think about the cost of gas, your time, the astounding bill at those places JUST so you can shop “local”, organic, etc…
Come together…we all work hard to bring this local movement to you, each and every week, and season. Smile on us, smile on your brother, your sister, smile on your market, your growers, your producers, your artisans…
Let’s make this local movement super groovy…
Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam

Market News
The Market is back open this chilly morning and with a threat of our first major snow this winter.
We are still waiting for some warmer weather so that more produce will be available. You can still find plenty of baked goods, eggs, meat and poultry, and skin care products from our local growers and producers.
Chef Jenny’s message for the week:
Valentine’s Day brings out the sweetness in everyone. NEW this week from the Seeds of Success: Cuckoo Cocoa Bits. A snack that satisfies your sweet tooth and provides protein by combining toasted seeds with agave, cocoa, and a hint of peppermint. It’s a crunchy, chocolatey treat that is reminiscent of a cookie.
There are plenty of other products available this week. Browse the categories to see what your will find.
Thanks so much for your support of Stones River Market, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. We’ll see you on Wednesday at Southern Stained Glass at 310 West Main Street from 5:00 to 6: 30 pm!
Recipes
Please, share your recipes with us on the Recipes tab. We’d all love to know how you use your Stones River Market products, so we can try it too!
It has been a while since I have posted a recipe. Everyone likes using slow cookers so I found this one from Yummly and A Year of Slow Cooking for you to try. You can read the entire story here.
Honey Garlic Chicken Slow Cooker Recipe
serves 4
The Ingredients.
- 1 1/2 to 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs (4 or one thigh per family member)
- 3 garlic cloves, smashed and chopped
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 cup soy sauce (La Choy or Tamari wheat-free are gluten free)
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/3 cup honey
The Directions.
- Use a 4-quart slow cooker (if using a 6-quart, this will cook faster. Check after 3 hours on high, 5 hours on low).
- Put the chicken into your cooker. In a small bowl, combine the rest of the ingredients, then pour evenly over the top.
- Cook on low for 6 hours or high for 3-4 (I’d go with low—-).
- Serve with basmati rice and steamed or roasted vegetables.
I thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!

MARKET NEWS
*Tumeric seems to be all the buzz right now and for good reason! There are so many health benefits to using fresh in your smoothie or just putting the powder in your cooking. It has anti-inflammatory properties, it has iron and manganese but it’s properties have been shown to help those with auto-immune issues to even cancer. Never mind the benefits of curcumin, tumeric’s active ingredient.
I have wanted to grow it myself and found this article from a blog called The Rain Forest Garden and I hope this gives you some ideas if you are considering growing it yourself! Enjoy!

I’m looking to post a survey real soon to see everyone’s interest in different items. We have opportunities to get some really cool items but there are minimum limits for some to get them offered on the Market. So be looking for that as I share the wonderful items available to us and see your interest!
Is anyone interested in Azure Standard? They are a group buy that is delivered once a month. We have the opportunity to participate….so go on

_As Always….
_Please share with friends and family about us so that we can give more people the opportunity to buy and eat healthy! Local farmers need our support to keep providing us with all the fresh foods! If we don’t give them enough business, it’s hard for them to continue to deliver to us. Please let’s not let that happen! Tell your friends about us so we can keep the Growers supported as this is how they make their living. *_
