SPLG Hyeroglyphics
Ever notice the hyeroglyphics written on the front of some of our product descriptions? like “CT3.19@RO&2.99@EO/Mex”? That means “compare our price to local competitors (RO & EO) and their current pricing and also noting if their’s is sourced internationally.” New one for you: “saEO” means “same as (a competitor)”… Don’t forget that regardless of pricing, when you compare our prices to those of local retailers, our locally grown, chemical-free vegetables are harvested to order for delivery to YOU!
Message from Your Market Manager
OUR MARKET SCHEDULE UNTIL END OF YEAR
If you cannot view this link at the SPLG Market Calendar 2014 then here is the scoop! Please make note of it… Closed week of 11/24 for thanksgiving, re-open weeks of 12/1 and 12/15 then closed for TWO weeks including week of Christmas and New Years.
TRADITIONALTHANKSGIVING FARE
We invested in minimal amounts of cauliflower, russets, reds, and sweet potatoes this week. Also acquired beautiful cranberries from Oregon and the Covington yams are from NC. While doing research on yams vs. sweet potatoes, I happened on info that the Covington Yams from NC are used to produce Covington Gourmet Vodka for sale in NC liquor stores. Their marketing byline? “Ending America’s dependence on foreign vodka”. Differences between sweet potatoes and yams? EXCERPT: “A true yam is… generally imported to America from the Caribbean. It is rough and scaly and very low in beta carotene.” Also BEAUTIFUL Seminole Pumpkins available in good variety of sizes! Shop early as all these items will go fast.
GREAT SQUASH SIDE DISH
This one never fails to please my guests and doesn’t have to be a side dish… Roasted Butternut Squash, Rosemary, and Garlic Lasagne. If you want a version to print from Cook’s Illustrated that has a photo, then here is my copy.
FRUIT THIS WEEK
We hope that we are satisfying your needs for fruit lately. We are loving the convenience and variety available for our customers! This week: pineapples, grapefruit, apples, pears, etc.
DEADLINE ON ORDERING NON GMO RAW COW MILK
Pam has posted the deadline as Tuesday 3PM due to the logistics of getting this fine product from her supplier for all things raw-cow. Look for it under the "M"s listed as “Milk – JTB Jersey Farms Raw Cow Milk TOTALLY NON GMO”.
NEW CUSTOMERS ARE ASKING ABOUT RAW DAIRY AND EGG PRODUCTS LABELED “FOR PET CONSUMPTION ONLY”
Pam Lunn of The Dancing Goat has graciously provided this explanation: “While we drink and eat all our products in our household, and have for the past 14 years, our licensing from the State of Florida (FDACS #1280 Dancing Goat) requires that we sell for the intent of pet consumption only. Any attempt to engage in conversations regarding the consumption by humans could jeopardize our licensing. Per Florida Law, it is illegal to sell raw milk/products for the intent of human consumption. Our milk products / cheeses are all raw and our free range eggs are not graded or washed in a chemical solution. We provide you with products produced by our stock the way Mother Nature delivered them.” NOTE FROM MKT MGR: ALL of our egg providers are required to provide this labelling.

HOLIDAY PARTY ON DEC. 6TH
Have you marked your calendar? NO speaker for this event. Just friendship, frivolity, fire, and food!
WELCOME TO OUR NEWEST CUSTOMERS!
Once you have submitted your order, if in doubt about what you owe, you can always confirm what you have been charged for by checking your account history and viewing your most current invoice. Instructions on how to do that are on our Q&A page under the question entitled Since you don’t provide an invoice with delivery, how do I know what I owe? Also, since your vegetables are picked fresh within 24 hours of delivery, they should be lasting for WEEKS in your refrigerator. When you accept delivery, please take a few minutes to inspect your order to protect your vegetables from unnecessary spoilage. Lastly, it is imperative that you understand our policy on Unclaimed Orders found on our Q&A page. When you make a purchase you are agreeing to abide by this policy.
SATISFACTION GUARANTEED
Our Market has high standards for what it sells. Despite that—as seasons transition—the challenges of evolving weather and pesky insects can take its toll on the crops. Market Growers are being very selective about what they are willing to present to you. No, it won’t always be picture perfect (which is part of its charm) and sometimes an insect is going to evade capture! But we won’t send you anything that we wouldn’t eat ourselves. If for any reason we have goofed and you are dissatisfied, please report it to me right away so we can rectify the situation. That’s how we get better and we all benefit from that. Your satisfaction is key to our success as a resource for St. Petersburgs’ lovers of chemical-free, organically & locally grown vegetables.

New Field Farm's Online Market: This week's order
Greetings,
We’re doing another order for this FRIDAY NOV. 21. PLEASE ORDER BY THURSDAY NIGHT AT 8:00. EARLIER ORDERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME.
When putting everything into storage before the recent cold I sorted through the GARLIC and found about 15 lbs of decent bulbs that didn’t go to market because of their small size, color. or other defect in appearance. They’re still good for eating. These are available for .50 cents each or $4.00/lb. so I’ll adjust the price according to weight as usual.
We have some SALAD MIX and nice LETTUCE in the hoop house which I hope will make it through this week’s arctic blast with some help from row covers. I’m estimating the amount of mix available so if it’s sold out you can ask for some in the comment section and we may have more to provide.
The PARSLEY hasn’t been enjoying the cold so having some of that looks iffy.
Hopefully, the KALE will live up to it’s reputation for hardiness.
We still have plenty of carrots, onions, celery root and cabbage. BULK PRICES STILL APPLY.
Thank you for all your orders two weeks ago.
Keep warm and dry.

Thanksgiving Week
New Meat Farmer
I am very pleased to welcome Greg Hutchins of Heritage Farm. Owned and operated by the Hutchins family, Heritage Farm uses organic methods to produce high quality, great tasting, nutritious food for local consumers and restaurants.
The farm is Certified Naturally Grown, with several acres in cultivation of crops, pastures and hardwoods for livestock, and a growing orchard of fruit trees and berries.
While Heritage Farm does offer fruits, vegetables, pastured meats, eggs, and educational opportunities, Greg is offering Members of Heirloom Living Market their pastured/grass-fed meat.
Heritage Farm was one of our original Farmers when the Lilburn Market opened in 2013. Due to the distance for delivery and the small size of the Market at that point, it was not feasible for Greg to continue with us. Now that we have the ‘power of three’ our numbers should be enough to keep this wonderful Farm as our Grower!
Please check out Heritage Farm’s great offerings. They offer many cuts of Beef, varieties of Sausages, Chicken and Lamb. From first hand experience, I can tell you the quality is excellent.
Be sure and check out….
Bakery on Brooks Marie has her items listed on all Markets this week. She will not have items listed next week, nor will she have any offerings on the Farmer Sales Table. I am ordering: Cornbread, for stuffing, Chocolate Chip Cookies for treats, Sandwich Loaf for Turkey sandwiches and Rolls for Thanksgiving Dinner. All of Marie’s products are Gluten Free and can be consumed by folks who have Celiac Disease. She uses Organic products and most importantly her offerings are delicious and made with love and care. Her items freeze well, so getting items this week will put you in great shape for having what you want on hand for Thanksgiving!
Dabrielle of My Daily Bread has Canned Pumpkin made from Organic Pumpkin, roasted and pureed. Perfect for the Pumpkin Pie you will be making for Turkey Day. It is Fall and who doesn’t like a good cup of Tea with Spelt Pumpkin Muffins or Organic Pumpkin Bread? Yum! The mini loaf is on special this week!
Fry Farm does not list any offerings this week as Vicky and Steve’s ‘grands’, their daughter and her husband are here visiting from their Mission in England. They will be back strong next week!
Peacefield Farm has added Radishes, Greens and 2 types of Romaine to their offerings. I sure am liking having Beefsteak Tomatoes that are juicy and delicious even with the colder weather!
The Veggie Patch always has a good variety of veggies and lots of peppers from mild to VERY hot! CHeck out the “Red” carrots!
Grow with the Flow has items listed this week but I noticed they are all Sold Out!
Be sure and get your orders in by 6:00pm!
